What was done

A thesis was developed for a master's degree in the specialty "Urbanism" at UACEG, aimed at preparing a concept for the regional development of the North-Western Region. A comprehensive urban planning and spatial study of the territory was carried out, including analysis of the settlement network, demographic and socio-economic processes, transport infrastructure and territorial interrelations. On the basis of the studies, conceptual proposals and graphic materials were developed, outlining the opportunities and directions for the future development of the region.

03

Scope

The work covers the territory of the North-Western Region and considers its position in the national and cross-border context, the existing territorial organisation and the spatial links with neighbouring regions and countries. The hierarchical structure of settlements, the functional dependencies between individual centres, transport accessibility and infrastructure provision were examined. Within the thesis, studies were made of the demographic situation and population dynamics, socio-economic characteristics, tourism resources, natural assets and development potential. The opportunities for territorial cooperation, the formation of regional development axes, the improvement of transport connectivity and the strengthening of functional interactions between settlements were considered. On the basis of the analyses, a comprehensive concept for regional development was developed, presented through a system of analytical, synthesis and design graphic materials that summarise the condition of the territory and illustrate the proposed directions for its future development.

04

Result

An overall urban planning reading of the territory of the North-Western Region was achieved, and directions were formulated for overcoming existing spatial and functional imbalances. A conceptual framework was developed for better regional connectivity, balanced development of settlements and more effective use of local natural, economic and tourism resources. The thesis combines an analytical and a design approach to regional planning and demonstrates the professional knowledge and skills acquired in urbanism, spatial analysis and strategic planning. The project was successfully defended before the examination board with an excellent grade — 6.00, thereby earning the educational and qualification degree "Master" in the specialty "Urbanism".
